NORTH PARK — Police are warning homeowners to take extra precautions after a string of homes were burglarized in January on the North and Northwest Sides.

All of the crimes took place within an area bounded by Bryn Mawr, Devon, Kedzie and Cicero.

The thieves entered through a window or door and stole property from the homes, according to police. In two of the incidents, witnesses saw three people fleeing the scene, all wearing black clothing and all described as 5-feet 10-inches tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds.

Some of the homeowners were out of town at the time of the theft, prompting police to remind residents to make sure all windows and doors are locked, only share travel plans with trusted family and friends, and install an alarm system if possible.

The burglaries took place:

• 6100 block of North Bernard Street, sometime between Jan. 9 and Jan. 11.

• 6000 block of North Lawndale Avenue, 4:15 p.m., Jan. 20.

• 4500 block of West Bryn Mawr Avenue, 4:20 p.m., Jan. 24.

• 6100 block of North Keating Avenue, 4:15 p.m., Jan. 26.

• 4300 block of West Highland Avenue, sometime between Jan. 29 and Jan. 30.
