CHICAGO — A Chicago police officer has been charged with felony criminal sexual assault after having a sexual relationship with an underage girl, according to reports.

Officer Eugene Ciardullo, 51, faces one felony count of criminal sexual assault of a victim between 13 and 17 years old, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Ciardullo, a 21-year veteran of the force assigned to the Deering District, had a "sexual relationship" that started, according to the victim, when she was 17 years old, the Tribune reports.

According to the Sun-Times, at the time of the relationship, the now 18-year-old victim was a student at the school where Ciardullo was a part-time security guard.

Ciardullo worked at the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences, Michael Passman, a spokesman for Chicago Public Schools, told the Tribune. The officer was removed from his position at the school in December "in response to serious allegations, and the individual is no longer an employee."

Ciardullo was booked at Cook County Jail and is his bond was set Sunday at $75,000, the Tribune reports.

The Police Department's internal affairs division is investigating the case and will present its findings to the Chicago Police Board to determine discipline, according to the Tribune.
