CHICAGO — Chicago Police will beef up their presence at the city's airports despite there being "no link or threat" from a shooting that reportedly killed at least five people Friday at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida, they announced.
"CPD is monitoring the situation in Ft. Lauderdale in real time," according to a statement from spokesman Anthony Guglielmi. "As is practice, CPD has increased security at both airports to ensure the safety of the traveling public."
Travelers at O'Hare and Midway Airports "can expect to see additional officers walking in airport terminal areas as well as vehicular patrols in the Arrival and Departure areas," Guglielmi added.
Anyone near the airport is encouraged to report any "suspicious activity" they see, police said.
A suspect is in custody in Fort Lauderdale, police said.
