CHICAGO — It's officially OK to wear a jacket: Friday is the coldest day to hit Chicago in five months.

Friday is expected to get only as warm as 54 degrees, well below the normal high temperature of 61 degrees this time of year, said AccuWeather meteorologist Paul Walker. It hasn't been this cold since May 2, when the city was just 50 degrees, he said.

Even worse: A north wind blowing at 10-20 mph is making things feel even chillier , so if you head outside it might seem like it's only in the upper 40s, Walker said. That's in contrast to last weekend, when the city saw 70- and 80-degree temperatures.

"It's a chilly day today," Walker said. "It'll feel a lot chillier than it has been recently."

You can blame the cold on our neighbors as "chillier air" is working its way down from the North and Canada, Walker said.

This weekend will be a bit warmer, with Saturday expected to hit nearly 60 degrees Saturday and a high of 68 on Sunday, Walker said. Saturday will have a sunny sky, Walker said, but Sunday will see a lot of sunshine.

"Pretty nice weekend, all in all," Walker said.
