WASHINGTON PARK — The CTA has scored a federal grant to pay for structural and cosmetic improvements to the Garfield Green Line station, according to a Wednesday morning announcement.

An upcoming project will make platforms more accessible and extend the canopies that hang over them, officials said. New public art and landscaping will also be added.

The project's $25 million price tag will be covered by a U.S. Transportation Department grant secured in part by Sen. Dick Durbin and Rep. Bobby Rush, according to the announcement.

The Garfield station sees about 475,000 riders every year, officials said.

The announcement did not specify when the project would begin or be completed.
