EDGEBROOK — The Fourth of July parade in Edgebrook will pay tribute to the Chocolate Shoppe, a neighborhod fixture  or nearly 50 years, organizers said.

The theme of the Fourth of July parade is "Ice Cream — America’s Favorite Treat," a tribute to the ice cream's record of dishing out sweet treats for nearly 50 years at 5337 W. Devon Ave., organizers said.

Marchers will step off at 11 a.m. July 4 from Edgebrook Elementary School, 6525 N. Hiawatha Ave., and head to Wildwood Park, 6950 N. Hiawatha Ave.

In addition to its unusual ice cream flavors — like Zanzibar Chocolate — the parlor is known for its elaborate window displays and the colorful wall murals. In 2014, the Chocolate Shoppe made headlines for featuring a twirling effigy in its front window of Mayor Rahm Emanuel dressed in a tutu and holding two fish.

Prizes will be given by the Edgebrook Community Association for the best float, most patriotic dog, coolest car, most school spirit, best decorated bike, most participation and several surprise categories, organizers said.

A picnic at Wildwood Park will follow the parade at noon. Food will be sold, and the honky-tonk band The Country Doctors will perform, organizers said. Attendees are welcome to bring blankets and lawn chairs.
