WICKER PARK/BUCKTOWN — Chef Jeff Mauro, host of Food Network’s “Sandwich King” and co-founder of BBQ joint Pork & Mindy’s, has ventured into wiener territory and plans to serve free samples of a Sonoran-style hot dog at his Milwaukee Avenue restaurant on Thursday.
The sampling party at Pork & Mindy’s, 1623 N. Milwaukee Ave., is set for 5-8 p.m. Thursday.
Intended to be paired with Mike’s Hard Black Cherry Lemonade, the spicy bacon-wrapped beef hot dog represents a collaboration between Mauro and the flavored malt beverage company, according to a news release.
To "kick off patio season and celebrate a summer of backyard grilling," Mauro is inviting anyone over age 21 who shows up in his restaurant Thursday night to try the new hog dog.
There will be Mike’s-filled buckets at the exclusive tasting, so it's an "adult-only fete," and entry will be on a first-come, first-served basis, a spokeswoman said. During the event, regular menu items will not be available.
After Thursday's free sampling, the hot dogs will be available as a special menu item through Sunday, costing $6.50 each, while supplies last. No sides are included because the sides at Pork & Mindy are a la carte, the spokeswoman said.
