RAVENSWOOD — Where does vodka come from? Why do pirates drink rum?

Get to the bottom of these and other mysteries of the cocktail universe at Koval Distillery's Spirits Primer, 7 p.m. Thursday, 5121 N. Ravenswood Ave.

Learn how brandy, tequila, gin and other "clear" spirits are made throughout the two-hour session. And yes, there will be tastings.

Register for the class online. Cost is $30, which includes complimentary snacks, water and soda, in addition to the tastings provided.

Attendees receive a 10 percent discount on any Koval purchase immediately following the class.
