A man known by Chicagoans for wandering The Loop was badly beaten in an attack on Lower Wacker Drive, police said. At 11 a.m. Tuesday, a 69-year-old man, who is known as the "Walking Man" or the "Walking Dude," was in the 400 block of East Lower Wacker Drive when he had a physical confrontation with another man, said Officer Megan Trainor, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

THE LOOP — The "Walking Man," a man known by Chicagoans for wandering The Loop, was badly beaten in a baseball bat attack on Lower Wacker Drive, police said.

At 11 a.m. Tuesday, a 69-year-old man, who is also known as the "Walking Dude," was in the 400 block of East Lower Wacker Drive when he had a physical confrontation with another man, said Officer Megan Trainor, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. 

The Tribune reported that officers responded to a call of a battery.

The man, who was beaten with a bat, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition, Trainor said. 

The man, who is known for his long hair and mustache, refused to press charges, Trainor said.
