West Side Shootings Leave 1 Dead, 5 Wounded, Police Say

CHICAGO— West Side shootings left one man dead and five others wounded Wednesday, police said. 

At 5:28 p.m., two men were standing in the 5800 block of West Augusta Boulevard in Austin when someone in a car pulled up and fired shots, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman. 

A 22-year-old man shot in the wrist, arm and chest was taken to Loyola Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, Lemmon said. 

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Marcus Patrick, of the 5800 block of West Erie Street.

Patrick was a documented gang member and was the intended target of the shootings, police said. 

A 21-year-old man, who was shot in his finger and arm, took himself to West Suburban Hospital where his condition was stabilized, Lemmon said. 

In nonfatal shootings on Wednesday:

At 10:30 p.m., a 30-year-old man sitting in a car was shot in the 3400 block of West Flournoy Street, Lemmon said. The man was shot in the chest and taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, Lemmon said. 

At 6:57 p.m., a 12-year-old boy was shot in the leg by someone in a red SUV while in a restaurant in the 200 block of South Western Avenue, said Officer Kevin Quaid, a Police Department spokesman.

At 3:02 p.m., an 18-year-old man was shot in the leg in the 3100 block of West Walnut Street in Garfield Park, Lemmon said. The man took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was listed in good condition, Lemmon said. 

At 12:18 p.m., a 17-year-old girl was wounded in the arm while walking in the 200 block of North Latrobe Avenue in Austin after a car pulled up and someone started shooting, Lemmon said. 

The girl was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, Lemmon said. 

No one is in custody for the shootings, police said.
