AUSTIN — The city's first shooting in more than 12 hours left a 28-year-old man dead on the West Side Wednesday morning, police said.

At 9:35 a.m., officers found the man lying in a vacant lot in the 5400 block of West Walton Street with a gunshot wound in his head, according to Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was pronounced dead on scene, police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Romaine May, of the 1000 block of North Mayfield Avenue.

No one is in custody, Pacheco said.
