CITY HALL — An Aviation Department employee caught on video stealing from an O'Hare International Airport vendor has been fired, according to the city watchdog.

Inspector General Joe Ferguson stated in his quarterly report released Monday that an unnamed Department of Aviation employee stole $440-$500 from an airport vendor while on duty. The report said the theft was caught on video, and the employee pleaded guilty to the charge of theft in November, receiving a sentence of court supervision.

Reporter Ted Cox found lots of interesting information in the latest IG report.

Ferguson's office recommended firing the employee, and the Aviation Department complied with that in January. The fired employee has since filed a request for a hearing with the Human Resources Board, and that case is pending.
