HYDE PARK — The Chicago Hyde Park Village seniors groups is holding a lunch on Wednesday to say goodbye to long-time Hyde Parkers leaving the neighborhood.
The group will hold a lunch at noon Wednesday at Augustana Lutheran Church, 5500 S. Woodlawn Ave. to say goodbye to business owners, clergy and artists moving out of Hyde Park.
Among the guests is Mike McGuire, who is closing Supreme Jewelers at 1515 E. 53rd St. after 56 years in Hyde Park.
Tom Wake of the Hyde Park Animal Clinic will also be a guest. Wake sold his veterinarian’s clinic at 1363 E. 53rd St. after 38 years in Hyde Park and will start working part-time in preparation for his retirement.
Gallerist Laura Schaeffer is moving to Oak Park to work on new arts space projects after building temporary galleries in Hyde Park since 2009.
Jason Churchill is also leaving the neighborhood for a new congregation after serving as the office administrator for Augustana Luteran Church.
The event is $5 for members of the group and $7 for non-members.
The lunch will be preceded by exercise with Sarah Oaks at 10:40 a.m. and an update on the University of Chicago’s plans for a trauma center at 11:45 a.m.
