BACK OF THE YARDS — Animal Care and Control workers recently pulled about 20 dogs out of a building that had been on fire in the neighborhood, authorities say.

The fire happened around 1:30 p.m. Monday at a frame home in the 4300 block of South Hermitage Avenue, according to Chief Juan Hernandez, of the Chicago Fire Department.

After the fire was extinguished, firefighters found about 20 dogs inside. Some of the dogs were puppies, Hernandez said.

The dogs were unharmed and taken by the city’s Animal Care and Control Department, according to Chicago Police Officer Officer Janel Sedevic.

Animal Control officials were not immediately available for comment Wednesday morning.
