ROSELAND — A 31-year-old man died after being shot in the chest late Wednesday night on the Far South Side, police said.

Around 11:30 p.m., police responded to a call of shots fired in the 9300 block of South LaSalle Street and found the man on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound in the chest, according to Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was brought to Advocate Christ Medical Center, Pacheco said, where he was pronounced dead.

He has been identified as Erksin Palm of the 7700 block of S. Laflin Ave., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. Palm was pronounced dead at 12:14 a.m. Thursday, according to the medical examiner.

Police said the man was a documented gang member.
