WEST RIDGE — A 15-year-old boy was in "stable" condition after being shot in the head Wednesday evening in West Ridge, police said.

Around 8:10 p.m., the boy was sitting in the passenger seat of a parked car in the 3100 block of West Devon Avenue when someone walked up and shot into the car, according to Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The car's driver brought the teen to Swedish Covenant Hospital, and he was soon transferred to Stroger Hospital, Sedevic said. His condition stabilized after he was treated for a gunshot wound in the head.

Police said the boy was a documented gang member.
