CHICAGO — A Little Village man has been charged in a DUI hit-and-run car crash that killed a pregnant woman on Christmas Eve, according to police.

Silvestre Garcia, 22, of the 2700 block of South Harding Avenue, faces a count of aggravated DUI and citations for a defective windshield and transporting alcohol, according to a Chicago Police news release.

Garcia allegedly was driving a silver Chrysler when it struck and killed 26-year-old Karla Leanos, who was walking in the 4200 block of West Ogden Avenue at 9:50 p.m. Dec. 24, according to police.

Police said Garcia fled the area before ambulances rushed Leanos to Mount Sinai Hospital, where doctors were able to deliver the baby, but Leanos was later pronounced dead.

The baby is in "stable" condition, according to police.
