SOUTH SHORE — Two men were shot and critically wounded within one hour of each other on the same South Shore block, police said.

The first overnight shooting happened at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, according to Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. A 19-year-old man was standing in the 7200 block of South Bennett Avenue in South Shore when someone shot him in his armpit, Sedevic said.

The teen was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, Sedevic said.

About an hour later, a 24-year-old man was sitting in a car in the same block when someone shot at him from a passing red car, Sedevic said.

The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Sedevic said, where he was listed in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police said both men are documented gang members.
