Sawada Coffee Brings Boozy Steamers, Doughnut Vault Doughnuts to Green St.

WEST LOOP — Sawada Coffee, a partnership between Japanese barista Hiroshi Sawada and Brendan Sodikoff's Hogsalt Hospitality, opens Saturday in the West Loop.

The new coffee shop, adjacent to Green Street Smoked Meats at 112 N. Green St., is Sawada's first coffee shop in the U.S., according to a press release.

The shop will feature a "curated menu" of espresso-based drinks, including sweet green military lattes (green tea, espresso, cocoa powder and white chocolate), cappuccinos, cortados and "boozy steamers." The menu will also include a selection of Doughnut Vault doughnuts.

The "boozy steamers" include: the Sawada Style Cold Brew with shochu, a Japanese liquor, and iced coffee ($16); Kurosawa Kimoto Junmai Sake served steamed or iced ($12); Spiced Bourbon Hot Cider with chai spice ($8); Scotch & Honey Boozy Steamer ($7); and the Benedictine & Chai Boozy Steamer ($7).

The cafe, with seating for 15, is outfitted with a custom-painted espresso machine, wooden ping pong table and a pinball machine.

The coffee shop will be open 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday and and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
