CHICAGO — Just as the holiday gift-shipping season is heating up, U.S. Postal Service trucks have been getting robbed of their packages, mostly on the North Side, according to police.

There have been at least six cases of postal trucks being robbed since Sept. 21, police said in a community alert. In the cases, thieves get into the trucks by punching or prying open the locks, police said.

The incidents took place:

• 1:30 p.m. Sept. 21 in the 1600 block of North Oakley Avenue in Wicker Park

• 9:30 a.m. Sept. 23 in the 1900 block of South May Street in Pilsen

• Between 1:15-1:45 p.m. Nov. 18 in the 2300 block of West Byron Street in North Center

• Between 11:50 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 18 in the 500 block of West Wisconsin Street in Lincoln Park

• 2 p.m. Thursday in the 2100 block of West Balmoral Street in Ravenswood

• 2:15 p.m. Monday in the 4700 block of North Hermitage Avenue in Ravenswood

Police said the thief in the May Street incident is described as a Hispanic man standing about 5-feet-10 and weighing 200 pounds, police said.

In the Oakley Avenue case, one robber is described as a Hispanic man, between 30 and 35-years-old, weighing 220 pounds. A second suspect is described as a Hispanic man between 20 and 30-years-old, standing 5-feet-7 and weighing 160 pounds, police said.

In the Byron Street incident, the robbers are described as a white man and a white woman.

Anyone with information on the incidents is asked to call detectives at 312-744-8263.
