WEST RIDGE — Joe Perillo, a Chicago and suburban BMW and exotic car dealer, bought a plot of land at 6301-33 N. Western Ave. in late October for $1.5 million, but Ald. Debra Silverstein (50th) said it won't become a car dealership.

Currently, half the land is a vacant lot, while the other half houses small storefronts topped with apartments.

The half that's an empty lot, 6325-33 N. Western Ave. was downzoned earlier this year from allowing for a shopping district back to residential with minor retail, as is 6301-17 N. Western Ave.

Before zoning is changed again, Silverstein said input from the community would be required, but declined to comment on any plans for the development or when a meeting might be held. She said Perillo was looking for a tenant for the space.

Perillo could not immediately be reached for comment.

Just down the street at 6016-60 N. Western Ave., Chicago Northside Toyota — now doing business in Edgewater — is making moves to take over the former "Z" Frank Chevrolet property with a brand new 222-vehicle dealership.
