5 Men Injured in Shootings Since Friday, Police Say

CHICAGO — Five men have been injured in three separate shootings since Friday, police said, two of which happened in Garfield Park.

• Most recently, a man was shot while walking outside in Englewood. At 4:05 a.m. Saturday, the man, who is 24 years old, was walking in the 5500 block of South Winchester Avenue when a dark-colored SUV pulled up and someone inside fired at the man, said Officer Ana Pacheco, Chicago Police spokesman.

The man was hit in his right knee and taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was in good condition, Pacheco said. The people in the car fled eastbound on Garfield.

• At 11:50 p.m. Friday, two men were shot in Garfield Park. The men, who are 18 and 23 years old, were outside in the 100 block of South Kostner Avenue when a van pulled up and someone inside fired shots, Pacheco said.

The 18-year-old man was shot several times in his leg and the 23-year-old man was shot in his abdomen. Both men are in "stable" condition at Stroger Hospital, Pacheco said. Police could not say the extent of their injuries.

• Hours earlier, at 9:38 p.m., two other men were shot in Garfield Park. A 40-year-old man was in a parked car while speaking to a 24-year-old man who was outside in the 2800 block of West Polk Street when a red car pulled up and someone inside fired shots in their direction, Pacheco said.

The 40-year-old man was shot in his leg and his head was grazed. He was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in "stable" condition, Pacheco said. The 24-year-old man was shot in his hand and was in good condition at Mt. Sinai Hospital.

The 24-year-old man is a documented gang member and convicted felon, and the 40-year-old man is a convicted felon, police said.

No one is in custody for these shootings.
