CHICAGO — A 15-year-old boy was critically wounded in a drive-by shooting in Belmont Cragin Thursday evening, according to police.

The boy was on the sidewalk with a friend in the 2400 block of North Austin Avenue at 6:32 p.m. when someone in a passing red car opened fire, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The boy was struck in his chest and was taken to Loyola Hospital in critical condition, Estrada said.

The shooting might have been gang-related, police said. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, Estrada said.
