BRIDGEPORT — A 21-year-old woman stood at a bus stop Sunday afternoon at 3458 S. Wallace St. carrying her iPhone 5s, a common target among pickpockets and thieves.

Around 4:30 p.m., a 15-year-old boy ran up to the woman, snatched the phone and sprinted down the block, according to a police report

That’s when two bystanders — one 37, the other 53 — took off after the thief.

The men chased the teen half a mile south and caught him in the 3200 block of South Union Avenue, police said.

“Two good citizens,” said Tony Mejia, the Deering District CAPS officer, commenting on the case at a Tuesday night CAPS meeting. “They cared enough, and they got the bad guy.”

The men, who have not been identified, held the teen and called 911. Police showed up a short time later and arrested the teen for robbery.

The woman got her cellphone back.
