DOWNTOWN — The city is moving its Christmas tree to Millennium Park on Tuesday night, and naturally, traffic will be impacted.

Northbound Michigan Avenue will be closed at Washington Street from roughly 8:45 p.m. to 1 a.m., the Chicago Department of Transportation said Tuesday. Southbound Michigan will remain open, and one eastbound lane of Washington will be available for motorists to turn onto northbound Michigan.

Otherwise, northbound traffic will be detoured from Michigan to eastbound Monroe Street, northbound on Columbus Drive, and then westbound on Randolph Street to Michigan. Drivers can also turn west on Madison Street and to northbound State Street, and then east on Wacker Drive to Michigan Ave.

The city's official Christmas tree, normally placed in Daley Plaza, will be in Millennium Park for the first time this year.

Separately, the city said Tuesday that from Nov. 5 through Nov. 11 Randolph will be closed between State and Dearborn streets to remove a crane blocking traffic near the Block 37 vertical mall. Traffic will be detoured north to Wacker, west on Wacker to Clark Street, and south on Clark back to Randolph.

The tree will be lit Nov. 24 at 6 p.m.
