CHATHAM — A 22-year-old man was shot to death in Chatham Thursday evening, police said.

Around 8 p.m., the man was standing on the sidewalk in the 7900 block of South Ellis Avenue when a gray sedan pulled up and someone inside fired shots, according to Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead after being shot in his head, buttocks and right calf, Sedevic said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office identified the man as Jamar Jackson, of the 11800 block of South Michigan Avenue.

Police said the man was a documented gang member.

No one is in custody, Sedevic said.
