UPTOWN — For the last two days, Victor Ortiz has been dropping his son off at Courtenay Language Arts Center's Child Parents Center for preschool.

After the drop-off, his son walks with the school to the grade school campus, at 4420 N. Beacon St., just a few blocks west. After school, he picks his son up from the parent center campus, but when he's asked school officials what's going on with the school they've been mute, he said.

"They say 'We'll talk later' but why not tell me now? What's the big secret and how come they haven't told us?" Ortiz said. "My son just thinks he's going on a field trip."

Ortiz said the problems began Monday when he dropped off his preschooler. When he got to the school big signs were posted on the door stating: "Until further notice this ... building is closed. Please report to main building 4420 N. Beacon." Other signs told parents: "You will pick your child up here" and "students will be dismissed from this location."

Despite his pleas, he hasn't gotten a solid answer from the school, he said.

Courtenay officials refused to comment on this when reached by phone Tuesday.

Neighbors and parents have said the problems may have to do with recent rain or a water problem, but he would like official word from the school, he said.

Faculty outside the school Monday said they were unsure of what the problem was.
