NEAR WEST SIDE — As Secret Service agents have been spotted at the United Center, speculation is rising that President Barack Obama may be attending the Chicago Bulls opener Tuesday night.
Though the White House won't confirm Obama's plans, ESPN reported that the president, in Chicago to address a convention of police chiefs, is planning to show up for Bulls-Cleveland Cavaliers matchup.
A source at the United Center told DNAinfo Chicago that agents had been spotted in the building.
Also, on Monday, season ticket holders were urged to arrive to the stadium early — at 6:30 p.m. The note blamed a national television schedule calling for the game to begin at 7:02 p.m. rather than the usual 7:10 p.m.
Obama has long been a Bulls fan. Earlier this year, he tweeted his approval of signing swingman Jimmy Butler to a long-term contract. He also has said he was disappointed to see former coach Tom Thibodeau fired.
"For the president of the United States to grace us on opening night in Chicago, I'm just honored," the Cav's LeBron James, who has teamed with Obama in a variety of urban initiatives, told reporters at a Tuesday morning practice.
