ROGERS PARK — An Oct. 13 drive-by shooting in a parking lot off Howard Street in Rogers Park hospitalized three men with multiple bullet wounds.

According to police, a black four-door vehicle entered the strip mall lot about 8:30 p.m. and someone inside opened fire on a group of men standing near Badou Senegalese Cuisine at 2055 W. Howard St.

The restaurant’s owner and a separate witness claimed nine or 10 shots were fired before the vehicle left the area on Howard, headed westbound, police said.

One victim, 40, was hit twice in the left buttocks and walked into Badou Senegalese Cuisine, 2055 W. Howard St., before collapsing.

A second man, 39, was hit in the upper left thigh and calf. He made it into Howard Food Mart, 2059 W. Howard St. — two shops down — before collapsing just inside the doors. The third man, 30, who was hit in the right ankle, crossed Howard Street into Evanston, where he collapsed and waited for an ambulance, according to police.

All three men were taken to Presence St. Francis Hospital in Evanston and were in good condition at the time the police report was filed.

A separate witness told police she believed the shooter had come on foot from North Hoyne Avenue, but said she had dropped to the ground when the first gunshot exploded behind her, according to police. She also estimated eight to 10 shots had been fired.

Officers said the youngest victim refused to answer questions about the shooting, while the two remaining men said their backs were turned when the gunman opened fire and had not seen anything.

Police noted that an unspecified number of Black P-Stone gang members had visited St. Francis to check on the 39-year-old victim.
