RIVER WEST — A funky 1980s "cottage" on the Chicago River has found a buyer less than a week after hitting the market at $2.3 million.
The three-bedroom town home at 365 N. Canal St. went under contract Wednesday, according to multiple listing service Midwest Real Estate Data LLC. The five-floor home (with a sixth outdoor level) is the first of the riverfront homes designed by Harry Weese to be listed for sale since they were built in the 1980s. The listing hit the market Oct. 1.
Dave Matthews says it's a recognizable property:
Weese is also known for designing the Seventeenth Church of Christ, Scientist at 55 E. Wacker Drive, and Washington D.C.'s Metro rail system.
The pending sale price and closing date could not be determined. Listing agent Tanya Hamilton of Jameson Sotheby's International Realty did not immediately return messages seeking comment. Cook County property records show the owners of the home paid $490,000 for it in 1988.
