HYDE PARK — Police have arrested two leaders of the 46 Terror gang, according to Ald. Will Burns (4th).

Police have blamed the gang based near 46th and Ellis Avenue for multiple shootings over the summer and Cmdr. Terence Williams of the Wentworth District has claimed the group is the single largest source of violence in Kenwood.

“The two suspects are linked to homicides, strong arm robberies and drug dealing,” Burns said in a statement. “According to [the Chicago Police Department], the arrests of these two leaders demonstrate significant progress in the effort to eradicate the gang.”

Police confirmed that two members of the gang had been arrested, but declined to give out any information that would identify who they had identified as leaders of 46 Terror, including names or dates or locations of arrest.

Prentice Butler, a spokesman for Burns’ office, declined to comment further and directed questions to police.

It remains unclear whether more arrests are coming or what effect will be of the arrests.

In July, Williams attributed recent violence to squabbles amongst the leadership of the gang.
