5 'Strongarm' Robberies in Auburn Gresham In September: Police

CHICAGO — A string of robberies in Auburn Gresham in September has led police to issue a community alert Monday. 

There have been five "strongarm" robberies in the neighborhood since Sept. 2, where multiple robbers approached people on the street and used force to take their property, according to the Chicago Police Department.

The first incident happened around 11:40 p.m. on Sept. 2 in the 1600 block of West 81st Street, police said. The second incident was at 2 p.m. on Sept. 7 in the 7900 block of South Hermitage Avenue, police said.

Another strongarm robbery happened in the same Hermitage Avenue block at 4:40 p.m. on Sept. 14, according to police. A fourth incident took place at 3:55 p.m. Sept. 16 in the 1800 block of West 80th Street, and a final reported incident happened Sept. 28 at 9:30 p.m., in the 7900 block of South Ashland Avenue, police said.

Police have said there are one to three black men connected to the incidents, with ages ranging from 17 to 45-years-old.
