WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — A man who tried to rob a food delivery driver in Washington Heights fired gunshots at the driver as he sped off, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Chicago Police in the Morgan Park District have issued the second warning this week to food delivery drivers on the Far Southwest Side.

The latest business alert came after pair of armed robberies in Washington Heights.

The most recent robbery happened about 9 p.m. Monday in the 8900 block of South
Carpenter Street. The delivery driver was confronted by a pair of black men who displayed a black gun and demand both the food and money, police said.

When the victim tried to drive off, one of the men shot into his car, according to police.

A similar incident occurred at about 9:15 p.m. July 19 roughly five blocks away in the 9100 block of South Racine Avenue in Washington Heights, police said.

The robbers in both incidents are described as about 20 years old. One of the men is roughly 5-foot-3, weighs 145 pounds and wears a black shirt. The other man is about 5-foot-9, weighs 160 pounds and has short black hair.

The warning came a day after police issued a business alert in Morgan Park regarding two pizza delivery drivers who fell victim to a group of robbers, one armed with a wooden board. In those incidents, the drivers were sent to an address in the 10700 block of South Loomis Street, police said.

Police are asking any businesses that receive orders for the area in Washington Heights or Morgan Park to notify them immediately. Also, businesses are asked to retain all records on the caller and any order information.

Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to call detectives at 312-747-8273.
