West Elsdon Shooting Kills Man, Police Say

CHICAGO — A 21-year-old man died several days after being shot in his head, according to police and Cook County Medical Examiner's records.

At 12:50 a.m. Tuesday, a 21-year-old man was standing on the corner in the 5800 block of South Pulaski Road when he was shot in his head, said Officer Ana Pacheco. The victim shouted gang slogans and threw an object at a man's car, and the man shot at the victim and drove off, Pacheco said.

The victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition, Pacheco said.

Alexander Velazquez, of the 3800 block of 58th Place, died at 3:19 p.m. Friday of a gunshot wound to his head, according to Medical Examiner's Records.

The man who shot at Velazquez was arrested in the 6300 block of South Whipple Street, Pacheco said.

The victim is a documented gang member, police said.
