BURNSIDE — A 48-year-old man is dead after a shooting in the Far South Side Wednesday night, police said.

Around 11:10 p.m., the man was standing on the sidewalk in the 9200 block of South University Avenue when a man walked up and shot at him before fleeing, according to Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition with gunshot wounds in his chest, back, leg and face, Pacheco said. He was later pronounced dead.

No one is in custody, Pacheco said.
