CHICAGO — A wall collapsed in Bronzeville Thursday morning, killing one man, a Fire Department spokesman said.

The collapse occurred in the 500 block of East Pershing Road and the Fire Department received word of it at 11:40 a.m. Thursday, spokesman Juan Hernandez said. The building where the wall collapsed was empty, but there appeared to be construction work going on, Hernandez said. One person's body was removed from the rubble.

The person who died was a 46-year-old man, said Officer Jose Estrada, Chicago Police spokesman, citing preliminary information. Estrada said the man died in a construction accident, but he did not have information about the man's injuries, which hospital the man was taken to and where he was pronounced dead.

The incident is under investigation, Hernandez said.
