Check Out GreenRiver, a New Streeterville Rooftop Bar Opening Sept. 17

STREETERVILLE — Downtown's newest rooftop bar is GreenRiver, an Irish-inspired restaurant with a big terrace offering city and lake views.

The bar will open Sept. 17 on the 18th floor of 259 E. Erie St., a new Northwestern Medicine building that opened last year.

The restaurant is a partnership between Union Square Events, a venture of Shake Shack Founder Danny Meyer, and consulting firm The Best Bar in the World. A menu was not available Wednesday, but it will be a nod to "the city’s meat-centric history and new, modern gastronomy," according to a spokeswoman, with fare including beef tartare, fried squash blossoms and saffron spaghetti.

The cocktail menu was crafted by former Aviary bartender Julia Momose, said Sean Muldoon of The Best Bar in the World. He said Union Square chose the restaurant location, which his firm thought "had the makings of a good place."

GreenRiver has 90 seats inside and 100 outside. The restaurant will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 5:30-10:30 p.m. weekdays, and 5-11:30 p.m. Saturdays. The terrace will close at 9 p.m. The restaurant also has a private event room seating 320.
