Austin Shooting Kills Man, Police Say

CHICAGO — A 25-year-old man was shot and killed late Monday in Austin, police said.

The man was standing on a porch in the 400 block of North Lawler Avenue at 11 p.m. Monday when someone walked up and opened fire, striking the man in his chest, according to Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Sedevic said.

The victim was identified as Kevin Nichols, of the 400 block of North Lawler Avenue, according to Cook County Medical Examiner's records. Nichols died at 10:21 p.m. of a gunshot wound to his chest, according to Medical Examiner's records.

No arrests have been made.
