CHICAGO — A 23-year-old man was shot and killed Wednesday night in Back of the Yards, officials said.
The man was standing in an alley of the 1100 block of West 51st Street on Wednesday night when he was approached and shot at by unknown gunmen, according to Officer Jose Estrada, Chicago Police spokesman. The shooting occurred at 7:30 p.m., said Officer Veejay Zala, Chicago Police spokesman.
The man was shot in the back and taken to Stroger Hospital, Estrada said.
Cook County Medical Examiner's records identified the victim as John Short, of the 1000 block of West 51st Street. Short died at the scene of the shooting at 8:19 p.m., according to Medical Examiner's records.
No one is in custody at this time, and the shooting may have been gang related, police said.
