Five Things To Do Outside Today: Patio Burgers Or Try To Catch a Lunker

By  Jen Sabella Linze Rice and Patty Wetli | August 24, 2015 4:55pm

Here are some cool outside options for today.

Take A Bike Ride To Evanston, Then Head Back For Patio Burgers: Grab your bike and pedal forth on a tour de Far North before heading back for a juicy burger or craft pint at favorite Edgewater patio spot, Moody’s Pub. The 10-mile round-trip ride will wind through some of Edgewater, Rogers Park and Evanston’s most beautiful and scenic routes. If anything, do it just because you know you’ll end up at Moody’s in the end. Meet at CTA Thorndale Red Line Stop, 6:15 p.m., All fitness levels welcome, BYOBike, helmet, lock and lights, Free.

Pedal Back in Time to the Jazz Age: Skip the lycra in favor of a flapper dress or zoot suit and join Go Albany Park's Roaring '20s-themed bike ride from Roosevelt High School to the lakefront. The route will pass a famous hangout of Al Capone's and wind up at The Dock at Montrose Harbor, where Rio Bamba is scheduled to perform its unique blend of Brazilian, Latin and American jazz. Meet at 6:15 p.m. at the Roosevelt High School parking lot, 3436 W. Wilson Ave. Free.

Hit Up the Most Beautiful Place in Chicago: Thrillist has arbitrarily chosen the 15 most beautiful places in Illinois and only one of them is in Chicago — Promontory Point. See what all the fuss is about, namely easy access to Lake Michigan and an insanely gorgeous view of the city's skyline from the south. 5491 S. Lake Shore Dr. Free.

When 'Bad News' Is Good News: Chances to catch an outdoor movie in one of the city's parks are dwindling by the day. "Bad News Bears" (the original Walter Matthau version) screens tonight in Calumet Park. 8 p.m., 9801 S. Avenue G. Free.

Go Fish: The Gompers Park lagoon is a hidden gem for anglers. Cast your line for bluegill, carp, channel catfish and yellow bullhead. According to fishing forecasts, prime time for nabbing a catch is after 6 p.m. 4222 W. Foster Ave. Free.
