CHICAGO — Police shot and wounded a teen in South Chicago after a chase Thursday night, they said.
Police were responding to a call of shots being fired at 10:45 p.m. in the 8900 block of South Escanaba Avenue when they saw two people who matched the description of the people they were looking for, according to a Chicago Police news release. One of the people was a 14-year-old boy, said Officer Janel Sedevic, S Chicago Police spokeswoman.
The officers saw a bulge in the teen's pocket, according to police.
When officers got out of their car the teen ran away, police said. Police chased after him while telling him to stop and drop his weapon, and when he didn't, an officer shot at him, wounding him, according to police.
The teen was taken to a hospital for treatment. No officers were injured.
Charges are pending, Sedevic said.
