CHICAGO — Two men were injured during a Thursday shooting in East Village, police say.

The men were shot at about 2 p.m. in the 900 block of North Winchester Avenue, said Officer Bari Lemmon, Chicago Police spokeswoman, in what she said appears to be a narcotics-related incident.

One victim, who is 25 years old, was shot in his side, and a 24-year-old victim was shot in his arm, Lemmon said. They took themselves to Norwegian American Hospital, where they were in stable condition.

Diana Mason said she has lived on the block for 23 years. She said she came home shortly after the shooting and spent time comforting the neighbor who heard the gunshots and called the police.

"We all have lived here a long time and know and take care of each other," Mason said of her neighbors. "This [violence] has got to stop."
