ALBANY PARK — A festival this weekend returns to celebrate the life and culture of four continents nestled in one Chicago neighborhood known for its seamless diversity.

Experience music, art and food from Korea, East Africa, Mexico, Brazil, and eastern Europe at the second Albany Park World Fest, Aug. 22-23, on Lawrence and Kimball streets, near the Brown Line CTA station.

Local bands and community members will again headline the music stage, including a youth group from the Korean-American Resource and Cultural Center, and acclaimed world music band Funkadesi closes out the festival on Sunday night.

The festival's signature ethnic character is best experienced in the new Artist's Tent, debuting this year, where local food, art, and crafts will be featured.

Restaurants Ruk Sushi & Thai, The Local Pizzeria, 2 Asian Brothers, Pilsen's La Cebollita and North Center's Mrs. Murphy & Sons Irish Bistro add to the food fare.

In contrast to the festival is a standalone carnival at nearby Roosevelt High School, where standard summer festival food and rides will be offered for a separate charge.

Mass will be offered on Sunday at noon by New Life Community Church.

Gate admission rates are $5 for adults, $10 for families. Hours are from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday. Carnival hours begin Friday from 5-10 p.m. and open during festival hours. Proceeds from this year's festival benefit the Albany Park Neighbors community organization.
