CHICAGO — A Chicago nonprofit is celebrating its one-year anniversary of helping special needs pets in Chicago.

Bialy's Wellness Foundation, a charity started by Ukrainian Village resident Erin Kowalski, will celebrate with a party from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 23 at Archie's Iowa Rockwell Tavern, 2600 W. Iowa St.

The event will feature a barbecue, food from Whisk, drink specials, music, raffles and a silent auction. Tickets cost $20 and can be bought here.

The Foundation was named after Bialy, a dog Kowalski fostered in 2013, who had limited use of her back legs. Though doctors said Bialy would never walk again, after six months of rehab and massage with Kowalski, a trained canine massage therapist, the terrier was walking again.

In its first year, the foundation has sponsored 15 dogs, according to Bialy's.

Kowalski talked to DNAinfo Chicago in April about Josh, a rescued pit bull who uses a wheelchair and has more than 4,000 Facebook fans.
