IRVING PARK — A fight within a Northwest Side street gang led to a shooting in Irving Park Monday morning, a community group said.

Around 11:20 a.m., a 33-year-old man was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital after being shot in the 3500 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

"Alderman [Carlos] Rosa's office has informed us that around 11:30 a.m. today one person was shot in the leg at Belle Plaine and St. Louis," the Greater Independence Park Neighborhood Association said in an email to neighbors. "Both persons are in custody and two guns have been recovered."

The neighborhood group said they were told by the alderman's office that the incident stemmed from "an internal rift between the Simon City Royals" and that no retaliation was expected.

Police could not immediately provide any other information about the shooting.
