CHICAGO — A 17-year-old boy is being charged as an adult with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a man in Brighton Park.

The unnamed boy (police typically do not release the name or photo of juveniles charged with crimes) is accused of killing Ricardo C. Mendez-Bucio, 18, of the 4500 block of South Paulina Street in Back of the Yards.

Mendez-Bucio was sitting in a car in the 4600 block of South Western Avenue Thursday afternoon when people walked up and shot at him, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. He was shot in his torso, said Officer Janel Sedevic, Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Mendez-Bucio was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:32 p.m., according to the Medical Examiner's office.

The shooting appeared to be gang-related, police said at the time of the incident.

The 17-year-old is charged with one count of first-degree murder and expected to appear in court Sunday.
