LOOP — Police found two people shot dead in an Americash Loan store in the Loop Friday afternoon, in what police believe to be a murder-suicide.

Police were called to a store on the 100 block of West Van Buren Street around 2:30 p.m., according to Nicole Trainor, Chicago Police spokeswoman. Officers were seen at the Americash Loan store at 179 W. Van Buren St. late Friday afternoon. Crime scene tape roped off the street from LaSalle (Financial Place) to Wells as onlookers gathered.

According to preliminary information, Trainor said two people were found with gunshot wounds. Both were dead upon officers' arrival, she said.

Police Supt. Garry McCarthy was at the scene a little after 4 p.m. and made a statement to the crowd. He said that a woman was found shot several times, a man had one gunshot wound to the head and police believe the victims knew each other.

Dave Matthews reports from the scene:

Investigators believe it to be a domestic-related murder-suicide incident, based on preliminary findings, McCarthy said, though the crime scene has not yet been fully processed.

After speaking with employees at the store, McCarthy said the woman was an employee and the man was an ex-boyfriend.

A gun was recovered at the scene, McCarthy said, and the man had concealed carry license, though it's unclear if the gun recovered was registered to him.

Patricia Evans of Forest Park was leaving a nearby Fifth Third bank when she heard four gunshots at about 2:30 p.m.

"It's a shame ... in the financial district where there's nothing but money and banks and security, and you can still kill somebody," she said.
