Brighton Park Shooting Leaves 18-Year-Old Man Dead, Police Say

CHICAGO — A man died after being shot Thursday afternoon in Brighton Park, police said.

A 18-year-old man was in a car at 2:55 p.m. in the 4600 block of South Western Avenue when people walked up and shot at him, said Officer Janel Sedevic, Chicago Police spokeswoman. The victim was shot in his torso, Sedevic said.

Ricardo C. Mendez-Bucio, of the 4500 block of South Paulina Street in Back of the Yards, was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:32 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. 

No one is in custody for the shooting, Sedevic said.

The shooting appears to be gang-related, police said.
