Five Things to Know About Town Hall District Crime in July

CHICAGO — In July, the Town Hall District reported more than 500 serious crimes, including more 350 thefts and 20 aggravated assaults and batteries, according to data available through the Chicago Police Department website.

The district is bordered by Fullerton Avenue, Lake Michigan, Lawrence Avenue and the Chicago River. It includes portions of Uptown, Lincoln Square, North Center, Lakeview and Lincoln Park. Its beats include 1911, 1912, 1913, 1914, 1915, 1921, 1922, 1923, 1924, 1925, 1931, 1932, 1933, 1934 and 1935, according to the Chicago Police Department.

The 500-plus incidents included more than 50 burglaries, six sexual assaults and almost 50 stolen vehicles. Here are five things to know about July's crime numbers in the district:

1. Thefts: Of the 350-plus thefts, at least 90 times people were robbed of more than $500. About 150 times people were reported being robbed of less than $500. About 50 incidents were reported at retail stores. Ten times people reported being pick-pocketed, police said.

2. Aggravated Attacks: Eleven aggravated assaults and nine aggravated batteries were reported in June. In two incidents the attacker had a gun, and, in nine others, a knife was used. An arrest was made in seven of the incidents, police said.

3. Timing: More than 120 incidents occurred between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. About 225 incidents occurred between 2 and 10 p.m. And another 170 occurred between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., according to the data.

4. When and where the six sexual assaults occurred:

• Around 7 p.m. July 3 in the 4300 block of North Lincoln Avenue

• Around 7 a.m. July 5 in the 900 block of West Cullom Avenue

• Around 5:30 p.m. July 12 in the 3700 block of North Recreation Drive

• Around 10 p.m. July 14 in the 4400 block of North Broadway

• Around 4:15 a.m. July 19 in the 3100 block of North Sheffield Avenue

• Around 10 p.m. July 31 in the 3400 block of North Clark Street
