NORTHERLY ISLAND — There's a mysterious new festival dedicated to margaritas Saturday, and if Facebook is any indication, it's going to be quite a fiesta.

Nearly 80,000 people have said on Facebook they're attending the Chicago Margarita Festival, which begins at noon Saturday at Northerly Island, 1521 Lynn White Drive.

Despite its apparent popularity, not much is known about the festival, which has received little — if any — press. The festival's Willis Tower-based organizers, who identify simply as "Chicago Margarita Festival," have not returned numerous messages seeking comment.

"What better way to spend the day lounging with friends in the park, listening to music and more?" the festival's Facebook page reads. "So, join us on the lake at Northerly Island for a day of fun in the park."

Admission to the festival is now sold out, according to the festival's website. Margarita tickets are $8 each, and the festival will also feature live music, food trucks, volleyball, corn hole, outdoor Jenga and a fireworks show. Though the website names its live acts, it does not say what food and beverage vendors will be present, or what they will be serving. Vendor applications were still being accepted as of July 7, the website shows.

The festival was originally to take place at the riverfront Chicago Tribune Freedom Center, 777 W. Chicago Ave., but in March the venue was switched to Northerly Island.

The website notes the festival adheres to all relevant Chicago Park District regulations. A Chicago Park District spokeswoman did not have an immediate comment on the festival.
